2003 pastel painting

It's framed with non-glare glass so some of the detail is lost as a result.

Those clouds make me want to fly. I love the simple color composition of blue and green and yellow, accented perfectly by that little bit of purple.

Ahh, amazing. Learning to use pastels well was definitely worth the effort; the colors are beautiful. And the lighting in this is perfect--not too dramatic but still noticable, and very realistic; conveys a nice mood, too. Well, actually, everything about this piece conveys a nice mood.
Or, perhaps more accurately, "Oooh....purty...."

it's amazing how much control you have over pastels. i can never work my way into blending of colors in pastels...i can only do that with chalk, and even then i do it half-decently. the clouds are fantastic, they look very real. the subtle tones of violet in the clouds help with the realism. since you spend much effort on drawing light from your art, i'd say you're much into impressionism. you do a great job in it.

Learning to blend with pastels takes time. I've stayed with it because the colors are so brilliant and I always use black paper which bring the colors out even more. Just love the medium.

you're very welcome. pastels are hard to use for me...as i have a tendency to fix obviously incorrigible mistakes by coloring it over and over again. with oil painting it works, sometimes...but that doesn't work with pastels...at least from my experience. pastels do offer brilliant colors.
